Theatre, Greek dancing, choir and movie screenings.
In September 2013, a novel theatre group, Praxis ('Πράξις', meaning 'The Act') was established by the Oxford University Greek Society. Our mission is to introduce contemporary Greek plays performed in their original language to an English-speaking audience.
OUGS screens contemporary and classic movies as well as documentaries by Greek film-makers. Though not always possible, we endeavour to show films with English subtitles. If you have any suggestions about possible movie screenings please feel free to contact us.
Our next scheduled movie night will be held on Monday, November 19th at Linacre College (MCR). We will be showing the movie/documentary “The Partisans of Athens” (Οι Παρτιζάνοι των Αθηνών) that is about the Resistance during the Nazi Occupation of Athens where 14 people recall their memories from that period. The screening starts at 7:30 pm and is only open to registered OUGS members.
We cover all kinds of dances, from the Peloponnese to Macedonia, from Thrace to Smyrna, from Crete to the Aegean islands. For videos and information of the dances we show please click here
This year our dancing meeting will be taking place in the Haldane Room, at Wolfson College, every Sunday at 6-8 pm. Come and join us in an enjoyable cultural experience! Classes start on Sunday, November 4th!
