Remaining heat in the exhaust gases can also be used in a waste heat recovery boiler or for preheating cullet. Various energy efficiency measures can be considered for existing furnaces. For furnaces to be newly bulit or to be replaced, new designs and oxy-fuel technolgoies can provide considerable savings (Worrell et al., 2008. pp.9-11).
