Boiler Lay Up Procedure for Summer | Powerhouse
1/1/2014 · In general, 'wet lay-up' is preferred for short shutdown periods and 'dry lay-up' is preferred for longer periods, although the choice may be complicated by various factors. Lay-ups will, in some situations, be determined by grid demand with little or no prior notice and, similarly, the likely duration of the lay-up will be unknown with only a short notice period prior to return to

With typical fuel savings of up to 28% and increased thermal efficiencies of up to 25% the benefits of a WarmCair heater
In practice, dry layup while the most resistant to off-line damage is rarely employed on the waterside of the boiler because it delays the start up of the plant. Wet Layup The goals of wet layup are to prevent oxygen and acidic corrosion and have the boiler internal chemistry ready to operate the boiler within operating control limits when the boiler is called upon for service.
The steps of preparing a boiler for wet lay-up are essentially the same for dry lay-up. The exception is when a boiler is closed and prepared to be filled with water and water treatment chemicals. Perform dry lay-up steps 1-6 (except do not swab the fireside with mineral oil) and then follow with step 7 below.
The process is known as "laying up the boiler," and it is performed to not only extend the overall life of the boiler, but also to reduce downtime and maintenance costs. In some cases, proper seasonal lay-up of your boiler can mean the difference between a boiler lasting for only 10 years or lasting for more than 30.
